The arrival of Nigerian-born winger, Ademola Lookman at Leicester City has shot bolts of excitement through the veins of The Foxes’ coach, Brendan Rodgers, as the gaffer is eagerly expecting the lad to dazzle for the team, megasportsarena.com reports.
Rodgers stated as much in anticipation of a productive debut for Lookman this weekend in the English Premier League, heading into which he confessed that he had been monitoring the dazzler as a transfer target since the lad’s youth days at Charlton Athletic of England.
The former Liverpool of England and Celtic of Scotland coach added that he is now looking forward to seeing Lookman shine at the club, with a view that the former England youth international will replicate his versatility and goals scoring ability.
Lookman, who shot into prominence with Everton then made huge impacts on loan at RB Leipzig of Germany, but failed to shine in a second spell with the German Bundesliga side, after signing a full contract, returned to England with Fulham last season.
He, however, decided to leave Craven Cottage after The Cottagers were demoted to the English Champions and then sealed a deal at King Power Stadium on August 31, after ageing to join The Foxes on a season-long loan.
He took that decision after finding the going difficult at Leipzig, from which he spent the 2020-21 season on loan at Fulham and contributed four goals in 34 matches, but his efforts were not enough to keep The Cottagers in the top-flight.
Lookman’s impact with Fulham, though, caught many eyes and left rave reviews trailing him, such that Rodgers is happy to grab the lad he had watched since his teenage days at Charlton and he later on tried to sign during his time with Celtic.
The gaffer, whose side are currently ninth on the EPL table with six points after three matches, is now looking forward to seeing Lookman in action for his team and the Irish tactician told famous British tabloid, Daily Mail that he is already excited knowing what value the lad can offer.
Rodgers declared: “I’m really excited about working with Ade, he’s a top talent. I wanted to take him to Celtic when he was at Charlton. I was aware of him when he was 15.
“He has all the tools, he has a great dribbling ability, how he views the game, he has an eye for a goal. My hope is that this environment will give him a chance to flourish.
“Hopefully, he can find a home here. I have no doubt the supporters will be excited by him. He can play in a number of positions.
“His preferred position is off the left side but he can play on the inside as well and on the right. He’s very balanced. He’s got two good feet. You wouldn’t know which is his strongest foot; he can strike the ball very well off both sides.”
