Chelsea of England striker, Tammy Abraham has revealed that the injury he copped in UEFA Champions League action for his club away to Valencia of Spain on Wednesday was not as serious as he initially thought.
Megasportsarena.com reports that Abraham cut a sorry sight as he held his waist and even slumped while being helped off the pitch at La Mastalla, where The Blues drew 2-2 with their hosts, but the Nigerian-born in-form attacker enthused that he will be back sooner than expected.
Just before half-time, the in-form Chelsea striker fell awkwardly while competing for a corner in Valencia’s box and the 22-year-old star received treatment on the pitch, after which he walked off with help from The Blues’ medical staff but, before he could make it to the tunnel, he went down holding his side before eventually being stretchered off.
He has now come out to confess that he initially feared that he had suffered a serious injury, but now believes he has avoided a long-term problem and has already set his sight of playing this weekend in the English Premier League as well as the December 10 clash with Lille Metropole of France in the UCL, as the ex-Bristol City and Aston Villa hitman says he is already feeling okay.
Chelsea can still qualify for the last 16 of the European elite clubs’ competition by beating Lille at Stamford Bridge in their next continental fixture, ahead of which Abraham disclosed that he is already focusing of the showdown with Victor Osimhen’s club, as he rejoices over his recovery.
As he prepared to go for scans on Thursday to properly assess the damage and formally check his recovery rate, Abraham said he is already happy that he did not suffer a serious hip injury after he fell heavily awkwardly during The Blues’ away draw on Wednesday.
Abraham told Chelsea TV: “It’s much better than when it happened. At the time I was fearful of the worst but it was much better when I got in. I was able to walk and move about (and) I was watching the second-half on my phone in the dressing room.
“So, I’m thankful and hopefully it’s not too long. I’ll have a scan, but hopefully it’s just bruising. It was a knee to my hip area, so hopefully it’s not too serious.”
