Chelsea of England striker, Tammy Abraham, still stands of playing again for the national team of the country where he was born and plies his soccer trade, as The Three Lions’ coach, Gareth Southgate says he still has the lanky lad on is mind, megasportsarena.com reports.
Although Southgate left Abraham out of his latest list of invitees announced on Thursday, the gaffer says he is aware of the Nigerian-born striker’s exploits with The Blues, and promised to look in his direction in future.
Despite failing to tie down a regular shirt since joining Chelsea, and had to be loaned to Bristol City, Swansea City and Aston Villa in quick succession, Abraham had an outstanding run at his last port of call in the past season.
He scored 26 goals for Villa, in helping them secure promotion back to the English Premier League, and netted his first pair of goals for Chelsea in last weekend’s EPL match against Norwich City.
However, with Harry Kane, Marcus Rashford and Callum Wilson still ahead of Abraham in England’s pecking order, Southgate left the Chelsea star out of his roster for the European Championship qualifiers against Bulgaria and Kosovo.
The England handler, though, has now come out to declare that Abraham is still close to his thoughts, and says he has kept his eye on the ambitious striker from his days in the youth squad.
That has given fresh hope of a recall for Abraham, who has two caps for England’s senior team, which he got in friendlies against Germany and Brazil in November 2017.
Southgate said: ”Tammy is one of a number of players who have either started the season well or we know well through our junior teams.
”This squad can look very different over the next few months and there is, as I said, in every position real competition and we need that.”
