FC Porto of Portugal defender, Zaidu Sanusi has missed out on an opportunity of moving to Fernebahce of Turkey, following his agent’s inability to seal a tangible deal, megasportsarena.com reports.
In contrast with initial expectations that the Super Eagles’ left-back would become the next Nigerian play to line of for The Yellow Canaries, Sanusi will now stay put at Porto, whose coach, Sérgio Conceição also played spoiler for the lad’s aspirations, as he refused to approve his departure.
Speculation had been rife that Sanusi would take after Austin Okocha, Okechukwu Uche, Michael Eneramo, Emmanuel Emenike, Joseph Yobo, Victor Moses and Valentine Ozornwafor as the next Nigerian star at the Istanbul-based side, but his agent was unable to seal a deal before the transfer window slammed shut.
That happened late Tuesday, as clubs in the Turkish Super Lig got an extended stay of action on the closure of transactions in the summer transfer window, but a report by allnigeriasoccer.com reveals that Sanusi’s representatives could not get anything concrete on the table for him.
The report adds: “Zaidu Sanusi will remain a player of Porto as a proposed move to Turkish giants Fenerbahçe appears dead in the water.
“According to various reports in the Portuguese press including Mercado Do Futebol, Porto coach Sérgio Conceição has vetoed the departure of the Super Eagles star to Fenerbahçe.
“Any club that wants to sign the defender will have to pay his release clause of 50 million euros (approximately N31.2 billion) and Fenerbahçe don’t have the financial means to meet his asking price.
“It is believed that the Yellow Canaries were considering signing the Super Eagle on loan with an option to buy.
“Sanusi risks not playing much football in the first half of the season as he has lost his spot in Porto’s starting line-up, making only one start from a possible four in 2021-2022.
“In addition, he is becoming irrelevant at international level, with manager Gernot Rohr opting for Jamilu Collins in the left-back position in recent matches against Liberia and Cape Verde.”
