World Cup Playoff Fallout: Eguavoen Throws In The Towel

0

Austin Eguavoen has formally stepped down from his position as the interim technical adviser of the Super Eagles following his failure to qualify Nigeria to the FIFA World Cup, Megasportsarena.com reports.

The former Super Eagles captain was drafted into the team after the NFF sacked the German, Gernot Rohr in December 2021 and he guided the Eagles to the Africa Cup of Nations where they exited the tournament in the round of 16 after a 1-0 loss to Tunisia.

Eguavoen, who has been criticised for being tactically inept, also oversaw the team’s World Cup playoff against Ghana but he failed to qualify for the Qatar showpiece, losing on the away goal rule.

He oversaw six matches when he was in charge of the team, winning three games, drawing two and losing just one.

Eguavoen returns to his role as the technical director of the Nigeria Football Federation.
