World Cup Shutout: Osimhen Is Inconsolable

0

Victor Osimhen is sad, disappointed and still stunned that Nigeria will not be part of the World Cup party in Qatar, Megasportsarena.com reports.

The Super Eagles needed a win against the Black Stars to qualify for the World Cup after playing a goalless draw at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi last Friday, but they could only manage a 1-1 draw, which saw the Ghana clich the ticket on the away goal rule.

Nigerian fans and Osimhen thought he had given the Eagles the lead just before the half time, but his effort was ruled out by the Video Assistant Referee.

“I feel very sad that we will watch the World Cup on TV. It was very disappointing; I don’t even know what to say. We all did our best but it was not enough on the day. It is sad because the next World Cup is years away and we have to sit this one out.”

The Napoli striker, who was the standout player in the Nigerian squad, however thanked the fans for coming in their thousands to see the game and apologised for disappointing them.

“I was impressed with the fans that came out; I have never seen that kind of support in Nigeria. I’m really sorry that we didn’t meet their expectations.”
