SSC Napoli of Italy striker, Victor Osimhen faced yet another hurdle on Sunday, as he was bench for all 90 minutes in his side’s Italian Serie A clash with AC Parma, megasportsaena.com reports.
In what could be a semblance of the continuation of a myriad of woes hat have hit the youngster off-field and on international duty, Osimhen was left out of Napoli’s starting line-up for the third straight game following his return from shoulder injury and coronavirus infection.
The 21-year-old Osimhen, who started from the bench against Verona in the Serie A and versus Spezia in Coppa Italia, was again selected by manager Gennaro Gattuso in the match-day squad against Parma but this time he did not see a minute of action, as Napoli beat Parma 2-0 at Stadio Diego Maradona.
Andrea Petagna, Hirving Lozano and Lorenzo Insigne were given the nod to start as the front three for Napoli but it was Eljif Elmas that proved decisive for the home side in the first half after he coolly slotted in a pass from Diego Demme.
Napoli were on the back foot for most of the second half and Gattuso snubbed the opportunity of introducing Osimhen, and instead sent on Matteo Politano for Andrea Petagna and the Italian repaid the manager’s trust with the second goal of the encounter and a 2-0 win for the Azzurri’s.
Osimhen, who missed up to three months of football before returning with a cameo role the previous weekend, was not given the pleasure of being part of the on-pitch thrills in the day’s victory, which takes Napoli to fourth on the Serie A log with 37 points.
