SSC Napoli of Italy striker, Victor Osimhen has been hit with bad news at his base, as doctors of his Italian Serie A club have hinted that he may remain out injured until January 3.
Megasportsarena.com can report that this is in contrast with updated reports last weekend hinting that he could return to action next Sunday, after earlier dates of his rehabilitation had been extended repeatedly.
The last extension now takes Osimhen into next year, which would make it three months since he bowed out in the second half of Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sierra Leone, a match in which he scored the Super Eagles’ second goal in a shock 4-4 draw at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City.
The former VfL Wolfsburg of Germany, Sporting Charleroi of Belgium and Lille Metropole of France youngster required on-pitch treatment before he was eventually taken off on a motorized stretcher, and ended up missing the reverse fixture four days later in Freetown,.
He has since gone on to miss six matches for his club, both in the Serie A and UEFA Europa League, thereby marking a huge downturn for the lad who became Napoli’s costliest player even on his transfer from Lille this past summer.
Sadly, a shoulder dislocation copped on international duty is now truncating his hopes for a bright debut season in The Land of the Azurri, as he is likely to be out of action until 2021, according to Naples-based newspaper Il Mattino.
An additional report by allnigeriasoccer.com disclosed further: “The probability of Osimhen making his comeback against Torino on December 23 is close to zero and the former Lille star confirmed that he will not be able to make his return this year as the pain persists.
“Furthermore, fresh tests confirm that there is still some neuromotor problem preventing the Nigerian from making a return to action this calendar year. Napoli’s record signing is expected to be omitted from the matchday squads in upcoming Serie A matches with Sampdoria, Inter Milan, Lazio and Torino.
“Napoli manager Gennaro Gattuso is hoping to have Osimhen ready for the first game of 2021 against Cagliari on January 3.”
