Villarreal of Spain coach, Unai Emery has downplayed recent reports that four of Europe’s top clubs and a couple of others are interested in signing his Nigerian winger, Samuel Chukwueze, as he insists the lad is committed to the Spanish LaLIga side, megasportsarena.com reports.
Emery was reacting to widespread reports that emerged earlier this week, indicating that Real Madrid of Spain have joined the race to sign Chukwueze, ahead of Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool of England as well as a couple of other teams in the English Premier League.
Rather than get worried over the prospects of losing the Super Eagles’ youngster in the January transfer window, Emery is staying upbeat that Chukwueze will stay put, considering that the lad is enjoying his days with The Yellow Submarine.
He added that the Chile 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup gold medalist and third highest goals scorer has no reason to want out of Villarreal for now, even as he admitted that every player’s ambition is to always step up their career to the next level.
Nonetheless, Emery is of a view that Chukwueze, who is set to feature on Thursday against Maccabi Tel Aviv of Israel in the UEFA Europa League, is growing in leaps and bounds with his Spanish LiLiga side, who have started min blistering side this season.
The 21-year-old Chukwueze, who would be making his 12th appearance in the Europa League if he features against Maccabi, has a release clause of 100 million euro, which has to be triggered by an interested club before he is allowed to depart The Yellow Submarine before the expiration of his contract.
Wolverhampton Wanderers, Everton and Leicester City of England are also credited with interest in the Diamond Football Academy of Umuahia product, but Emery has now told France-based Nigerian journalist, Babatunde Ojora that all he is happy about for now is the growth he is seeing from Chukwueze at Villarreal.
Emery added: “We are happy with Samuel Chukwueze, he’s growing up here with us and his performances are getting better little by little but above all we want to achieve with him our objectives with his skills, his capacity.
“He is young and he has a very good future and then trying to add his performances for our team, for the national team, maybe in the future he can go to another league to grow up more but I think he’s very happy here with us, and every match with him is very important to try to get best performance with him.”
