New loan arrival at AC Milan of Italy, Fikayo Tomori has cited Zlatan Ibrahimovic as a major source of inspiration that should help him achieve his huge tartgets with The Rossoneri, megasportsarena.com reports.
Tomori revealed that his biggest ambition with the Italian Serie A side is to help them win the league title this season, and he believes having ‘Evergreen Ibra’ and Mario Mandzukic on his side will make the prospects easier to achieve, even as he also enthused that they will personally help him boost his development as a player.
Having been signed during the same week that Milan acquired Mandzukic, Tomori enthused that contending against both legendary strikers in training, as well as playing with them, can only help him to improve his game and enhance his development.
The dark-skinned stopper, who was born to Nigerian parents in Canada but naturalized to adopt England nationality as a child, has settled down fast after arriving at Milan on a loan deal that will run until the end of this season, with an option to buy.
He is eager to justify the agreement that would cost the Italian side £26.6m (€30m) should they decide to buy him outright this summer, which would be a welcome development and change of fortune for the product of Chelsea’s academy, who struggled in The Blues’ team this season.
Having featured just four times since the arrival of Thiago Silva as a free agent, a downturn had come for the England international, who got 22 appearances last season and the 23-year-old lad quickly jumped at the opportunity of joining Milan, who were suffering a defensive crisis in their bid to win The Scudetto.
Tomori, who got his Rosoneri debut as an early substitute in their stormy Coppa Italia quarter-final clash with local rivals, Inter Milan four days after arriving at The San Siro, has now declared emphatically that he is confident he can help them to their first league title since 2011.
This is despite seeing Ibrahimovic sent off in the second half after he scored the opening goal in the game, as the Nerazzurri responded through goals from Romelu Lukaku and Christian Eriksen, inflicting a 2-1 defeat on Stefano Pioli’s side.
Despite the loss, Tomori made an impressive debut alongside Alessio Romagnoli at centre-back, after replacing Simon Kjaer in the 20th minute, and he feels buoyed by the experience of playing his first game in a fiercely contested derby, even as he sets his sight on winning the Serie A title.
Tomori declared: “I want to help the team as much as I can and the best way to do that is on the pitch. The history of Milan is trophies. To be in this position that we’re in now and to not think about winning the Scudetto is something that we shouldn’t be doing.
“It was nice for me to play my first game The was a derby. When it’s a derby, it’s very intense and very emotional, which is good. In England, there’s a lot of games like this. I’m very happy to be here, to be playing again, to come to this club in a good moment.
“We should be thinking about winning the Scudetto. We can’t be afraid of saying we want to win it and we can win it. We have to have this kind of motivation and goal to win it.”
