FC Lorient of France striker, Terim Mofi is still in cloud nine, following his first ever hat trick in the French Ligue 1, as he went on to be named man of the match and helped his side soften their relegation woes, megasportsarena.com reports.
A solid personal performance saw the former Golden Eaglets attacker net a crucial treble of goals for relegation threatened Lorient, as they stormed to victory over Girondins-Bordeaux and his haul of 14 goals have now equaled the record of goals by a Nigerian player in Ligue 1 that was set by Victor Ikpeba in the 1997/98 season.
The 21-year-old Moffi also has a total of 15 goals in all competitions during what is his first season in France, while his recent burst of six goals in four matches this month puts him behind only behind PSG’s Kylian Mbappe in the goals per minute ratio.
While Mbappe has enacted a goal every 88 minutes, Moffi’s is per 120 minutes, but his hat-trick in Lorient’s 4-1 win over Bordeaux helped Lorient move four points clear of the relegation zone with 35 points from 34 matches.
Heading into the fixture, the former KV Kortrijk of Belgium youngster had assists in his last three matches in the division, but he was beaten to the start when Yoane Wissa netted in the 18th minute to break the deadlock.
Moffi then struck two minutes later for his 12th league goal of the season, as Lorient turned defence into attack and Wissa pounced on a defence-splitting pass before rolling the ball across to the Nigerian attacker, who calmly slotted home, then got his second of the game two minutes before half-time.
For Bordeaux, Samuel Kalu made a long-awaited return, having missed the last four games due to injury, and he got off the bench in the 54th minute for his first match since March 14, but the day’s highlight belonged to Moffi, who got his first match ball since his arrival in France last October.
