Nottingham Forest look set to miss out on Union Berlin striker Taiwo Awoniyi, Megasportsarena.com understands.
The Reds were hoping to sign the Nigeria international after learning of a £17 million release clause in his contract. Now, it’s being claimed that a deal could be scuppered, despite the player heading to Greece for talks over the weekend.
Forest are desperately trying to add to their squad ahead of their maiden Premier League season in 23 years.
It’s being reported that Awoniyi will reject Forest; amid interest from several other Premier League clubs for his signature.
Awoniyi scored 15 Bundesliga goals last season to help Union Berlin to a fifth-place finish.
During his time on the books at Anfield, the 24-year-old had seven loan spells, at clubs in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands, before joining Union Berlin in a permanent deal in 2021.
It was at Union where he found his best form, scoring 20 goals in all competitions during the 2021-22 season.
