Taiwo Awoniyi Cited With Milestone Goals In German Bundesliga

FC1 Union Berlin of Germany striker, Taiwo Awoniyi has been cited with two milestone achievements, as he became his club’s top scorer ever and notched his highest haul as a professional player, megasportsarena.com reports.

The historic day came for the UAE 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup winner, who was once signed on by Liverpool of England, as he helped his side move up to seventh spot in the German Bundesliga.

That feat was achieved with a 1-0 win over Kingsley Ehizibue’s FC Cologne on Friday night at An der Alten Försterei, where Awoniyi first had a huge chance to net as early as the second minute but his control let him down.

He then made history three minutes into the second half, when he scored his 17th Bundesliga goal as a Union Berlin player and went top of the club’s all-time top scorers’ list.

In doing so, Awoniyi, who has also previously played for FSV Frankfurt and SV Mainz of Germany, NEC Nijmegen of Netherlands as well as Royal Mouscron and KAA Gent of Belgium, surpassed Max Kruse as Union’s top scorer ever in the Bundesliga.

Awoniyi’s 12 Bundesliga goals so far are also his best in a single season since he turned professional, surpassing 11 he netted in the Belgian First Division A during a loan spell at Mouscron in the second half of the 2018-2019 campaign.

He has now etched a new niche for himself, having notched five goals in his debut season with Union Berlin and his tally of 12 this term takes him top of the club’s all time scorers’ chart.
