Super Eagles’ new media officer, Babafemi Raji has expressed satisfaction with the performances displayed last weekend by players of the Nigerian national team, as he believes their heroics at club will ultimately rob off on their country’s squad, megasportsarena.com reports.
At a point the Eagles’ media unit sent early hearty Christmas greetings to the team’s teeming fans worldwide and all Nigerians at large, Raji (aka Topmost Striker) went on to note that the individual performances seen from many of the lads last weekend should turn into collective impact once the squad resumes next year.
He went on to single out Glasgow Rangers of Scotland defender, Leon Aderemi Balogun for special mention, with a verdict that statistics pooled in already by the former Germany-based stopper show how relevant he has become to his new club.
While Balogun appeared to struggle last season, in which his days in the English Premier League were cut short at Brighton &Hove Albion and he had to take a short term deal at Wigan Athletic in the lower cadre English Championship, the mulatto lad has regained relevance in Scotland.
Though he has again faced some injury concerns, the former Fortuna Dusseldorf, Werder Bremen, Darmstadt and SV Mainz of Germany lad appears to overcome his early blight in the Scottish Premiership and has settled down well playing under Steven Gerrard with The Gers.
So much has now been noticed of Balogun’s efforts by the Eagles’ media officer, who has used the 32-year-old stopper as a reference point to heroics enacted by various Nigerian national team players at the weekend.
Raji took to social media to reveal his awe for Balogun’s performance last weekend in Scotland, and the youthful broadcaster from Brila FM used the Germany-born star as a reference point to all other Nigerian national team lads, as he posted: “Another fine weekend for our @NGSuperEagles players.
“@LeonBalogun played 90 mins & produced a dominant display for @RangersFC with 3 clearances & 89% pass accuracy. He’s been the team’s goodluck charm with 10 wins in the 10 games he has played. #SoarSuperEagles #Team9jaStrong.”
