Once promising striker, Stephen Odey has received a huge opportunity to reactivate his waning career, as he has been linked with a summer transfer to FC1. Union Berlin of Germany, megasportsarena.com reports.
The Berlin-based German Bundesliga club already have fellow-Nigerian striker, Taiwo Awoniyi doing well in their ranks but, with the former youth international looking likely to leave at the end of this season, they have turned their searchlight on Odey as a replacement.
In effect, the product of Mountain of Fire & Miracles Ministry (MFM) FC of Lagos, who played for FC Zurich of Switzerland and Racing Genk of Belgium before joining Randers of Denmark, could become the next Nigerian lad to star for Berlin, who also have Anthony Ujah in their team.
It will be a huge revival for the 24-year-old Odey, who has 13 goals and two assists from 29 games in all competitions since joining Randers last summer, but still has a contract with the East Jutland club running until June 30, 2024.
A report by allnigeriasoccer.com added: “Having put himself in the shop window with 18 goals in all competitions, Awoniyi has been tipped to move on to pastures new in the summer transfer window, with the English Premier League his preferred destination.
“Another Nigeria international striker on the books of Union Berlin in Anthony Ujah has two months before the expiry of his contract and it is unlikely his contract will be renewed.
“Union Berlin have already started scouring the market for Awoniyi’s replacement and have placed Odey on their list of transfer targets.
“And the former Mountain of Fire star will not come cheap with Randers looking at selling him for a fee of 4.5 million euros (approximately N2b in Nigerian currency).”
