The former Ajax Amsterdam of Holland kid was named in the hosts’ starting line-up less than 24 hours after he was benched for all 90 minutes in United’s English Premier League 2 clash with Chelsea.
His selection paid off, as United were 4-1 up with an hour, with braces from McNeill and Zidane Iqbal, after which Hoogewerf knocked home their fifth goal in the 66th minute, as the Nigerian-born Holland youth international put the icing on the cake when he drilled into the top corner to put the game beyond Wolves.
That saw Hoogewerf take his goal involvement to 16 in 16 games this term, as he has been in top form in recent weeks, with three goals and five assists in his last five matches of the U18 Premier League.
