Former Bursaspor of Turkey defender, Shehu Abdullahi is staying upbeat for a better campaign in the new season, despite currently being club and in search of a new base where he can ply his trade this term, as the Super Eagles star says he is not worried about his immediate future, megasportsarena.com reports.
Rather than fret over his recent departure from Bursaspor at the end of his contract and the club’s insistence that he must take a pay cut, considering that they could not gain promotion back to the Turkish Super Lig, Abdullahi is taking the development in his stride and refuses to panic.
The former Sokoto United, Kano Pillars, Uniao Madeira of Portugal, Anorthosis Famagusta of Cyprus and Caykur Rizespor of Turkey full-back-cum-holding-midfielder is staying upbeat about better days ahead of him, even after Bursaspor stated clearly that he should be ready to accept a pay cut in order to get a new deal at the club he joined in 2018.
Turkish sports daily, Fanatik reported further that, Abdullahi, who is now a free agent, has put his hope in getting another contract at Bursaspor this summer, after his plans of getting a deal elsewhere failed to materialize, but he has been confronted with a condition that would see his annual salary reduced to 500,000 euro.
Talks between Abdullahi and the club have now stretched beyond a week, but the fair-skinned lad says he will only enjoy his holiday for now; even as he faces the thorny issue between him and the club – being what he would earn should he eventually get to sign another contract with them.
Although the top brass at Bursaspor continued to stress that they cannot afford to pay him what he used to earn in the team and they even stated categorically that they cannot meet up to his new demands, the 27-year-old Abdullahi refused to be disillusioned and is already talking about seeing himself enjoy a better season along the line.
Abdullahi disclosed that he is enjoying time away with his loved ones and further declared: “The holiday is over, I had a great time with my families and friends. I appreciate your support and love, I’m honoured. It’s time to get back to work, looking forward to the new season.”
