Nigerian female volleyball player, Sharon Nwabuaku is relishing the experience and exposure she gained from participating at the recent African championship in Yaoundé, Cameroon, where the continent’s qualifiers for the 2020 Olympic Games emerged, megasportsarena.com reports.
Although Nwabuaku could not inspire the Nigerian team to pick a ticket to the Olympics from the African championship in the past month, the player from Nigeria Security & Civil Defense Corp (NSCDC) enthused that being at the competition alone opened her eyes to another level.
While also recalling that Nigeria’s matches against the hosts, Cameroon and 2019 African Games champions, Kenya were both crackers, Nwabuaku added that the experience she gathered at the championship in Cameroon will help her to improve in her game and style of play.
Nwabuaku told aclsports.com: “The 2020 African Olympic Qualifier was a wonderful experience because I got to watch more experienced teams and learn a thing or two from them. One of the games I found exciting and entertaining was the match between Kenya and Cameroon.
“It is my prayers that I get to watch these top teams play in order to learn more and work on improving myself. Since I started playing for NSCDC, I have always had a wonderful time. I started playing volleyball at a very early age and represented my secondary school as a spiker.
“I got selected and eventually represented Delta state at the 2013 National Youth Games in Ilorin winning gold medal. Few years later, I moved to Abuja and after playing volleyball for some months, I was converted to a setter because of my height when I played for NSCDC at the 2016 National Open Championship organized by Nigeria Customs Service.”
