Villarreal of Spain winger, Samuel Chukwueze has been hit with a massive dilemma, as he faces a choice between playing through the pain barrier or going for surgery on a troublesome injury, megasportsarena.com reports.
This much has been revealed by Villarreal’s coach, Unai Emery, who expressed concern over the fitness level Chukwueze is currently facing and admitted that the Super Eagles’ kid may need to go for ‘minor surgery’ to correct a niggling groin problem.
Although the former Arsenal gaffer admitted Chukwueze could continue playing should the club urge him to, he added ahead of his side’s Spanish LaLiga clash with Granada on Wednesday that surgery might be the best option for the Nigeria international.
Heading into that game, Chukwueze, who has featured in 17 Spanish top-flight matches this season, with a goal and three assists to his name, is rated as doubtful for the tie at Estadio de la Cerámica, which has further put him on a cliffhanger of varying medical implications.
Chukwueze was not involved in the last training session of The Yellow Submarine due to the setback, which Emery admitted is causing the left-footed lad some discomfort, but the coach went on to declare that Villarreal’s medical crew will have the last say on what will go for the Chile 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup gold medalist and third highest goals scorer.
Emery disclosed: “We still have Chukwueze, who has groin discomfort that has been dragging on for a while and we are at a time when the player has stopped. We are studying the decision of whether to stop for him to have a small operation or to continue playing. The rest is OK.”
