Villarreal of Spain winger, Samuel Chukwueze has been cast in doubt for a place in the matchday squad of The Yellow Submarine for next month’s UEFA Super Cup fixture due to injury.
Megasportsarena.com reports that the game versus Chelsea of England is billed to hold on August 11, but Chukwueze is still in a race against time to be fit in order to make the cut for Villarreal.
The word out of The Land of The Armada adds that Chukwueze has reported for pre-season drills with the team but he is still undergoing individual training, less than two weeks before the Super Cup clash at Windsor Park in Belfast, Ireland.
It is another major scare for the product of Diamond Football Academy of Umuahia, who in May underwent an operation to fix an injury to his left leg and ended up missing the UEFA Europa League final, which his side won against Manchester United of England.
The FIFA 2015 U17 World Cup gold medalist and third highest goals scorer started another round of fitness issues when he sustained a muscle injury during the second leg of the Europa League semi-final at Arsenal of England.
He then suffered a relapse in the days leading up to the final in Gdansk and Villarreal’s coach, Unai Emery has not been able to count on Chukwueze for his team’s pre-season fixtures versus Valencia and Levante of Spain as well as Olympique Lyon of France.
Despite an injury-plagued 2020-2021 campaign, Chukwueze contributed five goals and eight assists in 40 appearances across all competitions, but he looks headed towards another spell out, as Villarreal’s medics have not put a time frame on his return to full training.
