Former Super Eagles’ assistant coach, Salisu Yusuf has gained leverage for job stability over the next couple of years, following the decision by the management of Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) club, Rangers International of Enugu to give him a two-year-contract.
Megasportsarena.com gathered that the new deal comes as a direct alternative and consolation for Yusuf, afte3r he was snubbed by Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in a possible contract extension, despite the soccer governing body having initially sent him to Rangers only on an interim basis.
Yusuf was seconded to The Flying Antelopes for their past continental campaign, few weeks after he completed a ban handed him for alleged involvement in collecting bribe to accept players into his squad for the Championship of African Nations (CHAN).
Although officials at the football house stated back then that all of Yusuf’s woes had been forgiven, they appeared to back pedal of that verdict and refused to hand him a contract extension, which he has now gained in The Coal City.
The report out of Enugu revealed that the new deal hand Yusuf earlier this week includes an official house and car, as the club’s top brass ostensibly rewarded him for his efforts last season, when he led Rangers up the standings in the NPFL after a difficult start.
A report by SCORENigeria added: “It was further gathered that the former Enyimba and Kano Pillars coach, who has served out a ban for receiving cash from undercover journalists three years ago, did not get a new deal when his boss, Gernot Rohr, got one before the 2018 World Cup.
“In Yusuf’s absence, the Super Eagles have struggled to impress so much so that their qualification for the AFCON in 2022 has been delayed after they failed to beat lowly-ranked Sierra Leone home and away.
“Yusuf, who led the home-based Eagles to reach the final of the 2018 CHAN in Morocco, has previously handled Lobi Stars, FC Taraba United and El Kanemi Warriors in the NPFL.”
