Partizan Belgrade of Serbia striker, Sadiq Umar is staying upbeat about better days to come ahead of him in his days with the East European club, as he says the former team of Pastor Taribo West and Ifeanyi Emeghara (Fifty) have given him a new lease of life, megasportsarena.com reports.
Although the Rio 2016 Olympic Games revelation and bronze medalist admitted he was on the verge of leaving the club in January, he disclosed that things have turned round for the better since he signed a substantive contract with them.
He had initially been on loan from AS Roma of Italy, who had also sent him to Glasgow Rangers of Scotland and some smaller clubs in Italy earlier on, and Umar disclosed that he readily agreed to a full contract with Partizan because he is enjoying every second of his stay with the club.
With things now looking up on the bright side of life for the 23-year-old striker at the Belgrade-based outfit, Umar is thinking of finally getting capped in the Super Eagles, as he says he is not in any way worried over his chances of getting an invitation, so long as he keeps playing well.
The lanky lad, who was Nigeria’s top scorer at the Rio Olympics, already has 16 goals and 13 assists in all competitions this season, which he believes will further enhance his chances in the Eagles and, although he has been linked with a likely transfer to Spain, France or Italy, Umar says he is not thinking of leaving Partizan just yet, as he hopes to continue doing well for them.
Umar told owngoalnigeria.com: “I am doing well here and that’s my biggest joy. The thought of leaving was all up in my head in January but I decided against it to continue my development here in Serbia, where Partizan has given me a new lease of life.
“The coach of the senior national team of Nigeria know about me. In the past I have spoken with his assistants and once with him. No point worrying over a cal up because it will come if I don’t stop doing well for my team.”
