Super Eagles’ coach, Gernot Rohr has turned his searchlight on another Germany-based Nigerian-born player, as he seeks an ideal replacement for injured Benfica of Portugal defender, Tyrone Ebuehi in the squad to battle Ukraine in a friendly on September 10.
Megasportsarena.com gathered that, rather than offer a recall to Russia-based Brian Idowu or include out of favour Shehu Abdullahi in the team to battle the East Europeans, Rohr is looking into the prospects of hooking VfL Osnabruck of Germany full back, Felix Agu.
Rohr has already convinced Agu to commit his international future to Nigeria and he could be called up for the game against Ukraine, after Ebuehi pulled out due to a relapse of an injury that hit him soon after he signed for Benfica before the start of last season.
Consequently, the 19-year-old Agu, whose club is in the German second division, is now the prime candidate to replace Ebuehi in the list for the September 10 game at Dnipro-Arena, but that would only be possible if he can get a Nigerian passport before then.
A report by owngoalnigeria.com adds: “Agu has made four appearances this season with an assist to his name already.
“(This is) his second season in the first team of the club who were promoted to the second division last season with Agu making 15 appearances.
“The aim is for him to progress like Jamilu Collins who also got his debut while playing in the second division in Germany.
“Agu is expected to provide cover at left and right back as he has played twice as right back and once as left back.”
