Super Eagles’ coach, Gernot Rohr has taken another dramatic turn in his growing face-off with officials of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), as the Franco-German tactician has come out with a no-holds-barred declaration that he does not beg anyone in the soccer governing body to help him approach players for invitations to the national team.
Megasportsarena.com gathered that, in what could be seen as a tactic rejection of recent overtures by NFF president, Melvin Amaju Pinnick to get Queens Park Rangers of England midfielder, Eberechi Eze to pledge his future to the Eagles, Rohr insists he did not sanction anyone to approach any player.
Pinnick has been criticized in various quarters the round leather game for personally embarking on a chase of Eze, who keeps getting top marks in the English Championship, but many Nigerian fans and pundits reckon the task of trying to get the lad to don the country’s colours should be undertaken by Rohr, not the NFF’s top shot.
While debate continues over Pionnick’;s impropriety or not, Rohr has now added an outburst that could further dampen relations between him and the NFF, thereby widening the gulf aht is spreading between them, as he insists he did not endorse the hunt for Eze or any other player.
Dramatically, though, the former Gabon, Niger Republic and Burkina Faso handler added caustic words for the Nigerian media in his verbiage, as alleged that he was quoted out of context in a comparison between Eze and Liverpool’s Ovie Ejaria, with the tactician concluding that he does not intend to share his plans and technical strategies with the public.
Rohr stressed: “I will never ask the NFF publicly to approach any player for our team. We have our processes and it certainly doesn’t include sharing such information publicly. Furthermore I think there must be restraint in press statements purportedly quoting me and my person in terms of interviews. I share a very good relationship with the media in Nigeria but this must not be abused to the extent of misquoting me and making wrong claims about my person.”
