Granada of Spain midfielder, Ramon Azeez has found support coming from the most unexpected source in the aftermath of his decision to hand in a transfer request at the Spanish La Liga outfit, as the club’s coach disclosed that he understands while the youngster wants to leave before the January window closes.
Megasportsarena.com gathered that Granada’s coach, Diego Martinez confirmed that the 28-year-old midfielder, who played for Nigeria at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, will leave the club this month, and admitted it is because the former Flying Eagles’ captain has not enjoyed regular playing time with the team.
That led to Azeez being declared surplus for requirement and, after just two appearances this term, including a 6-1 humbling away to Atletico Madrid back in September, Martinez acknowledged that the best option was to reach an agreement that would allow the dark-skinned lad move on.
Consequently, the petit lad, who grew up in Ikotun area of Lagos, is leaving the cub he joined on February 1, 2019 from Segunda Division side, Lugo, where he featured 35 times and scored two goals in the process.
Azeez, who last played for Nigeria as a second-half substitute in a 4-2 victory over Lesotho, during a 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on November 17, 2019, admitted he wanted to leave and the Granada gaffer has now explained the steps they took in helping the lad reach the decision to hand in his transfer request.
Martinez told Spanish news outlet, Ideal: “It was a technical decision because he asked us to go out in this market. He has been playing less frequently, and we understood that the best thing for him and for the team is for him to have time to solve his situation.”
