Super Eagles fast-rising strikers, Victor Osimhen and Paul Ebere Onuachu were both on target for their respective clubs at the start of this weekend, with the Super Eagles’ rookies hitting goals in France and Belgium respectively, megasportsarena.com reports.
While Onuachu made the best of his first full competitive match for Racing Genk of Belgium, which he joined in a big money move from FC Midtjylland of Denmark late this summer, Osimhem continued his amazing start to life at Lille Metropole of France with his fifth goal of the new season, which is also his first campaign in Ligue 1.
After striking his first senior goal for Nigeria in Tuesday’s 2-2 international friendly draw against Ukraine, Osimhen was once again on target for Lille, as his side claimed a 2-1 win against Angers on match day five in the French Ligue 1 season on Friday.
In doing so, the former VfL Wolfsburg of Germany and Sporting Charleroi of Belgium striker became the first player to score five goals or more in his first five Ligue 1 games, with his marking coming next in line since Italian striker, Mario Balotelli achieved the feat in 2016.
Osimhen had earlier bagged a brace on the opening matchday against Nantes and scored twice again in his second consecutive home game against St-Étienne, before taking his tally to five Ligue 1 goals on Friday.
Of seven goals scored by Lille so far this season, Osimhen has accounted for five (approximately 70 percent), as the 20-year-old Chile 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup top scorer and highest ever net banger in the Cadet Mundial’s history continues in a fiery form for club and country.
In Belgium, Onuachu scored on his debut for Genk, but his side lost 2-1 away to Osimhen’s former club, Charleroi in the Jupiler League; as the 25-year-old towering lad, who arrived in Belgium on transfer deadline day, started his first league game.
Onuachu, though, could make only a personal mark, as the visitors went in search of their fourth league win of the season, but were dealt a big blow when Charleroi scored in quick succession, first from the penalty spot on 26 minutes and 2-0 three minutes later.
The lanky lad, who scored on his Eagles’ debut, in a 1-0 win friendly home victory against Egypt, though set up a nervy finish with a diving header just after the hour mark, but his side’s 2-1 loss left the defending champions in 7th position with 10 points from their opening seven games.
