Chile 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup revelation, Orji Okwonkwo has entered the January purchase radar of Reginna of Italy, few months after pulling out of a loan deal at Montreal Impact of Canada, megasportsarena.com reports.
Although he enjoyed a ich vein of form, playing time and goals during his time with the Canada-based club that competes in USA’s Major Soccer League (MLS), Okwonkwo opted to cut short his loan spell from Bologna of Italy, as he preferred getting back into the spotlight of Europe.
His aspirations appear now o be heading for reality, as reports have emerged from The Land of The Azurri that he is drawing keen transfer interest from the Italian Serie B club that previously had the Nigerian trio of Stephen Ayodele Makinwa, Victor Obinna Nsofor and Joel Chukwuma Obi.
Okwonkwo could become the next Nigerian to star for the Regio Emilo-based side, as reports by Corriere dello Sport and Tuttomercatoweb revealed that Reggina’s sports director, Massimo Taibi has contacted Bologna for a deal over the winger-cum-attacker.
The report adds: “Reggina have identified Okwonkwo as an alternative should their bid to sign Las Palmas striker Pietro Iemmello prove unsuccessful.
“The 23-year-old has returned to his parent club after spending the last two seasons at Major League Soccer club Montreal Impact.
“Gli Amaranto are scouring the market for a striker with Gabriel Charpentier set to return to parent club Genoa after suffering another injury.
“Reggina are familiar with Okwonkwo who has made 43 appearances combined for Bologna and Brescia, scoring four goals.”
