Guingamp Ladies of France striker, Desiree Oparanozie has taken her efforts in mentoring and empowering Nigerian female kids to another level by joining a non-governmental organisation in another project to create further awareness in development avenues for the girl child.
While Oparanozie also powers a female development foundation of her own, the Super Falcons striker, who captained Nigeria a the recent FIFA Women’s World Cup in France, has joined a group called Ladies In Sport to inspire and educate the girl child in various communities.
Oparanozie’s latest contribution to empowering the girl child has been revealed via a post on social media, in which Ladies In Sport disclosed that the Falcons’ star is one of their motivational speakers and mentors at their latest educative event tagged LIS 2019.
The post from Ladies in Sports’ verified account @LISinternationl read: “One of our #LIS2019 speakers @oparanozie9 is doing great work in our community to inspire and empower girls. #educationthroughsports #DareToDream.”
Megasportsarena.com reports further that, in throwing more light on her target of taking developmental efforts to another level, the Falcons’ star, who set the programme in motion with a courtesy visit to the first Lady of Imo State, Ebere Ihedioha. said Desire Oparanozie Foundation is a charitable initiative that empowers youths in rural communities, especially the girl child.
The gangling striker acknowledged that the starting point is with female children in Imo State, where she hails from, but the extended plan is to go full blast from this Thursday, with a career talk at Imo International Conference Center (IICC), Owerri and exhibition match on Friday.
Oparanozie expatiated: “On 19th July, Team Desire, comprising of my colleagues will play a novelty match against some selected legends at Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri.
“Then there will be a final of a four-team tournament involving selected school teams from the three senatorial zones of Imo State – Owerri, Okigwe and Orlu.
“The fourth team will be my alma mater, Girls Secondary School, Ikenegbu, Owerri.
“The two best players to be selected from the school teams will be taken to one of the female clubs in the country for an intensive two-week training camp.
“This is to enable them have a feel of the game in case that’s the path they would want to chose after their secondary school education.
“The three day event is tagged ‘Encouraging the Young Nigerian Dreamer. It is my own little way of giving back to the society.”
