AS Monaco of France attacker, Henry Onyekuru could have former Arsenal gaffer, Unai Emery as his next coach at the French Ligue 1 club, should he stick with the Principality outfit beyond January 2020, megasportsarena.com reports.
Although there has been frenetic talk about Onyekuru returning on loan to Galatasaray of Turkey, following his struggles at Monaco, the former KAS Eupen and RSC Anderlecht of Belgium star may play under Emery if he decides to stay put.
It would mean Onyekuru taking over from Super Eagles’ colleague, as Alex Iwobi as the next Nigerian to play under the Spanish soccer tacician, sequel to reports linking the former Sevilla boss with the top job at Monte Carlo.
Details of the report out of France indicate that Monaco’s top brass are thinking of doing away with their current handler, Leonardo Jadim, because their plans and ambitions are higher than what they have at present.
Monaco have high expectations and a mid-table position just will not cut it for the principality club, hence the pressure that is mounting on Jardim, even after his inconsistent team thrashed Victor Osimhen’s Lille Metropole on Saturday.
Fresh reports now state that Monaco are looking at options for a new head coach, with one of their options being Emery, who was recently a Ligue 1 winner with Paris Saint-Germain but a disappointment at Arsenal.
Monaco are hunting for a new boss, as Jardim’s future looks bleak with the Monegasque club, and Emery is said to be a target, but a report by Le 10 Sport adds that Onyekuru’s club officials are also considering former Valencia boss, Marcelino and ex-PSG and France head coach Laurent Blanc, while their third option is Emery, who was sacked by Arsenal last month.
The Spaniard would bring experience of French football after his time at PSG, with Sevilla and Valencia also among his former teams, and could be the one to uplift Monaco, who currently sit seventh in Ligue 1, with Jardim handed a boost with a shock 5-1 win over Lille last weekend.
