Racing Genk of Belgium striker, Paul Ebere Onuachu shot up to seventh position in the race for the overall highest goals scorer this season in Europe, as he hit home his 30th of the season for the club he joined in the previous campaign.
Onuachu’s second season in Belgium has turned into fertile hunting ground, as the former Young Stars of Lagos, FC Ebedie of Shagamu and FC Midtjylland of Denmark hitman continued his great scoring form by helping Genk romp from behind to defeat Royal Antwerp 3-2 in the Belgian Championship Round.
Megasportsaena.com repors that Theo Bongonda put the visitors ahead off an assist for Junya Ito on 20 minutes but Onuachu and his teammates were stunned in the second period as the lead soon disappeared before the hour mark.
Maxime Le Marchand equalized for the hosts shortly before the hour mark before Mbokani set up Koji Miyoshi four minutes later to put Antwerp 2-1 up much to the disappointment of the visitors.
Onuachu then stepped up with a big goal 17 minutes from time as he beat his marker smartly before slotting past the goalkeeper for 2-2 but it was Bongonda who stole the show as he grabbed the winner and his brace of the night two minutes from time to seal all 3 points.
Having scored 29 goals in the regular season, the giant striker has now become the first player to score 30 since the 2001/2 season, with Onuachu now on a total of 34 goals for club and country, thereby moving up to seventh with 45 points in the race for the European golden boot.
