AS Torino of Italy defender, Ola Aina is back in full training with his club, following two weeks out with an injury he copped after being cut by a broken glass while celebrating his birthday at home, megasportsarena.com reports.
Back then a statement by Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) revealed that Aina had to withdraw from the Super Eagles’ list of invitees to battle Brazil in last Sunday’s friendly because he suffered ‘a domestic accident,’ but the former Chelsea fringe player has overcome the setback.
Such it was that Aina has now featured in three straight full training sessions with The Maroons, starting from Monday, and looks good to get a look in with the Turin-based squad for Sunday’s Serie A clash with William Troost-Ekong’s Udinese, who also have Nigerian-born Italian striker, Stefano Chuka Okaka on their cards.
Before returning to full training with his teammates on Monday, Aina, who previously played on loan at Hull City and Wolverhampton Wanderers, before getting a similar deal at Torino that was upgraded into a full contract this past summer, trained separately on Saturday.
Since that tentative step back to full drills with his club, the 22-year-old London-born right-back, who has 14 caps for Nigeria, after first playing for England at various youth levels, has stepped up his efforts, towards achieving an all-clear to participate in the upcoming clash with Udinese.
Aina is now on course to confront Okaka and Troost-Ekong, who has played five Serie A games for his Udine-based side so far this season and will hope to retain his spot at the heart of defence on Sunday against his Eagles’ pal, who has now received the green light from Torino’s medics.
Since joining the Serie A side on a permanent deal in the summer, Aina has featured for them in seven league matches and will hope to be in Mazzarri’s starting line-up against visiting Udinese in the match day eight fixture at their Turin home, Dacia Arena.
