Nigeria’s top female athlete, Blessing Okagbare led the way among the country’s women with a special greeting at Christmas, as the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games bronze medalist splashed a message that showed she has a heart for yuletide pleasantries, megasportsarena.com reports.
Although she has been out of the spotlight in recent time, the Commonwealth Games and IAAF World Athletics Championship ace would not be left behind in showing the emotions she has for the festive season, as she joined the battery of Nigerian footballers in reaching out to sports fans.
The spray also included messages from more Nigerian footballers based in Europe, as they joined the array of celebrities sending fond messages and splashing photographs about how they spent this year’s Christmas festivities, with Alex Iwobi and Wilfred Onyinyen Ndidi leading the way for Super Eagles’ players, while Asisat Oshoala also popped in to represent the ladies.
Another catchy depiction of the comfort soccer stars gain from enjoying a rare opportunity of getting closer to their of family at Christmas came from Galatasaray of Turkey midfielder, Oghenekaro Etebo, who also splashed photographs of himself with his family on the special day at yuletide.
Similarly, Iwobi did not allow worries over his next English Premier League match with Everton of England on Boxing Day bother him, as he took time out to mark Christmas with his immediate and extended family, same as did Ndidi, who will also be in action with Leicester City this Saturday, but Oshoala and Okagbare opted to go solo in their celebrations.
Okagbare added a different flair to take the narration into track and field, as the former African female 100m record holder showed that athletes also have feelings at yuletide, while Oshoala put aside her busy schedule with Barcelona Femeni of Spain to chip in a message as well.
Also representing the ladies, France-based Super Falcons striker Desire Oparanozie took her own celebrations to another level when she issued her yuletide greetings in igbo language, while Watford of England defender, William Troost-Ekong gave out signed replica jerseys of his club.
Oparanozie stated in her well worded native langugage message to her teeming fans and all Nigerians worldwide: “Merry Christmas – Ekeresimesi oma. #WishesInMyDialect #OwerriDialect #Christmas 🎄🎅 pic.twitter.com/scvMieixCZ.”
Another female angle also came when Ndidi and his wife, Dinma Fortune, depicted how they celebrated Christmas as parents for the first time after welcoming their daughter earlier in the year and they were exuding happiness, as he shared a photograph of himself and his family dressed in Christmas jumpers.
Not so for Iwobi, as he appeared all formal and dressed for the occasion, as he returned how to join his father, mother and sister in marking the day alongside his girlfriend, following which he took to social media to reveal how it all went down.
The Everton star added via @alexiwobi: “Merry Christmas Christmas treeWrapped present;” while Oshoala posted: “MERRY CHRISTMAS TO Y’ALL Red heart;” and Okagbare concluded with emojis, as she added via @mountain214: “Hugging faceDizzy symbol❤Christmas treeFlag of Christmas IslandMrs. Claus.”
Okagbare, though, earlier reeled out photographs of the bags of rice and other foodstuff she intended to give out for people in need, and added in her post: “Who’s ready for Christmas??? Because it is a season of giving and @theblessingokagbarefoundatiion is gearing up for it…. Give! Give!! Give!!!…@itsblessingokagbare.”
