Manchester United striker, Odion Jude Ighalo has been offered a number of factors that could determine if he gets to start this weekend against his former club, Watford, in the English Premier League, megasportsaren.com reports.
After paying his firs two matches for The Rd Devils as a substitute, expectations are rife that Ighalo should start against The Hornets, but United’s coach, Ole Gonnar Solskjaer has reeled out permutations for that to happen.
In assessing the chances of the loan arrival from Shanghai Shenhua getting his first start for United, the gaffer revealed that the fitness of Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial will determine whether or not Ighalo is handed a home debut against his former club Watford on Sunday.
Two of Ighalo’s substitute appearances so far for the Red Devils came in away matches – against Chelsea in the Premier League and Club Brugge in the Europa League.
While Greenwood was not in the team that faced Club Brugge on Thursday due to illness, Martial has started nine of the last ten matches played by Manchester United in all competitions and may need a breather.
Solskjaer said: “Everyone says that [players raise their game] against their old team when they score, but there are also many games when you don’t score.
“Odion is getting more and more minutes, but [whether he starts] depends on Mason as well of course, and how Anthony [Martial] is [after playing on Thursday].”
