Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt midfielder, Evelyn Nwabuoku has expressed delight over her return to the female national team, Super Falcons, and ability to lead them to emerge champions of the recent West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Women’s Cup in Cote d’Ivoire.
It was a glorious return for Nwabuoku, who first captained the Falcons to rule the 2016 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations in Cameroon, but bouts with injury caused her exit from En Avant de Guingampin of France and return home to line out with Rivers Angels.
The Garden City club is the second team Nwanbuoku played for in Nigeria, after starting out with Bayelsa Queens of Yenagoa, then moved abroad in 2015 to play for BIIK Kazygurt of Kazakhstan, later on Östersunds DFF of Sweden and then Guingamp of France.
The Delta State-born 34-year-old star showed immediate signs of her revival when she helped Rivers Angels win the Nigerian Women Football League (NWFL), for which she was also exited, despite finally losing out to her former club, Bayelsa Queens in the Super-4.
She is now of a view that her decision to return home is paying off, having got the opportunity to captain the Falcons again, and end the regional competition as winning skipper, which ostensibly won her a place in Thomas Dennerby’s provisional list for the Women’s World Cup.
Megasportsarena.com can now report that the midfielder-cum-defender took to social media to reveal her delight, while also stating appreciation to the Falcons’ coaches and officials of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for making her return possible.
Nwabuoku stated: “It was a great honour and opportunity to lead this amazingly strong and spirited @NGSuper_Falcons group.
“I appreciate the coaching crew, teammates, fans and @thenff for their support in our 2019 WAFU Women’s Cup success in Abidjan. We did it, together! God bless you all.”
