Borussia Dortmund of Germany youngster, Nnamdi Collins could be ion his way to Engalnd in the summer, as the fast-rising attacker has been linked with both Chelsea and Manchester City, megasportsarena.com reports.
The race is already on for the budding attacker, as The Blues aim to add to their recent forages in youth development, while The Citizens aim to get another whiz-kid added to their fold at Etihad Stadium.
Details of the report out of Queensland indicate that Man City are already putting lots of heat on Dortmund for a first option deal on Collins, as the EPL champions want to make up for having lost Jadon Sancho almost two seasons ago to the same club and now want to turn the tables.
An additional report by popular Germany tabloid, BILD, further disclosed that City are making a move for Collins with a package tabled worth €2m, as they want to ward off similar interest from Chelsea, who are said to be offering €1m, for the mulatto lad, who joined BVB four years ago from Fortuna Dusseldorf.
Incidentally, Collins is already Germany’s under-16 national team captain, which has shored up his value at such an early age, but Dortmund are surprisingly prepared to allow him depart, with a view that they have other talents and future prospects within their youth system.
This comes just a year after the center back, who was snapped by the 1997 European champions from the youth team of Fortuna Düsseldorf in 2016, was promoted to Dortmund’s under-17 side and went on to start their first four matches in the B-Junioren Bundesliga West.
He soon after got an invitation to Germany’s under-16 squad for friendlies against Austria on the 5th and 8th of September 2019 in Delmenhorst and Rotenburg respectively, as coach of the side, Michael Prus looked again at the lad, who first gained a look in for Germany’s youth teams back in May 2019 when he started for the under-15s in a 2-0 win over Holland.
Collins, who was once on the radar of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), was also named in Prus’ 20-man squad to face Finland in international matches on October 9 and 12, having earlier been placed on standby for friendlies against Austria back in August, based on his impressive displays in the B-Junioren Bundesliga West league.
Jake Bacon of Talk Sport added: “Man City are willing to pay €2 million (£1.7 million) for Borussia Dortmund starlet Nnamdi Collins. The 16-year-old defender has impressed for Dortmund’s Under-17s side since joining the club from Fortuna Dusseldorf last summer.
“Collins, who has represented Germany at youth level, has netted four goals and registered an assist in 19 appearances and has represented Germany at youth level. German outlet Bild say Man City are keeping tabs on Collins, who they see ‘a lot of potential’ in. Chelsea are also believed to be interested in Collins, who is highly-rated by Dortmund chiefs.”
