Nigeria has surprisingly not been listed among countries set to send players to this year’s Africa Tennis Cup of Nations in Botswana.
With the competition set to begin on Monday, November 4 in Gaborone, Nigeria’s tennis talents may not be found in the numbers, as the country was not named among participants confirmed by the continental body.
As statement by Confederation of African Tennis (CAT) did not make any mention of Nigeria, as it confirmed that 63 players from 17 countries will compete in the tournament from November 5 to 10 in Gaborone.
While Nigeria may miss out, players are expected from Botswana, Zimbabwe, Kenya, South Africa, Lesotho, Namibia, Mozambique, Burundi, Rwanda, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Swaziland, Mauritius, Madagascar, Malawi and Angola.
CAT also confirmed an entry list of 38 men and 25 women, among whom is Kenya’s top female, Angela Okutoyi, who cancelled a tour to Australia to play in the African championship.
CAT further disclosed that Botswana will also host a regional coaches’ conference in Gaborone prior to the African Tennis Nations Cup.
