Leicester City of Wilfred Onyinyen Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho were both in action for The Foxes and helped their side dump Sheffield United 2-1 in the English Premier League, megasportsarena.com reports.
While Ndidi was back in EPL action, after missing several weeks out with injury, Iheanacho again put in a battling effort, but it was Sheffield Wednesday fan, Jamie Vardy that broke the hosts’ hearts with a late winner at Bramall Lane.
Vardy, who took great delight in scoring against the rivals of his youth days’ favourite team in the same fixture last season, which The Foxes also won 2-1, kept his cool when through one-on-one and beat Sheffield’s goalkeeper, Aaron Ramsdale with a confident right-foot finish.
That lone goal gave Brendan Rodgers’ side a first victory in five games across all competitions and a first in three Premier League matches, moving them to within a point of leaders Chelsea, but it was more misery for The Blades, as Chris Wilder’s side have made the worst ever start to a season and remain rooted to the bottom of the table with only one point from 11 matches.
On the other hand, victory was what Leicester deserved, having dominated possession for the better part of the game, particularly in the first half, when Vardy and James Maddison struck the same post.
In between those efforts, Ayoze Perez marked his first Premier League start since October 18 with the opening goal, before Oli McBurnie immediately equalised with what was his first goal of the season.
It was an evening of multiple celebrations, even as both Nigerian players in Leicester’s squad got off the visitors’ bench in the 69th minute, as Ndidi went on for Nampalys Mendy and Iheanacho replaced Perez, who got the game’s goal earlier on.
