Wigan Athletic of England defender, Leon Aderemi Balogun has admitted he is direly missing the fun and excitement that comes with full team training with his club mates and lining out on the pitch for energy-sapping matches with the squad, as the current lockdown has taken it all away, megasportsarena.com reports.
With the ravaging novel coronavirus pandemic causing disruptions to social, religious, economic and sporting life across England and other countries of the world, Balogun has confessed that everything has become boring for him, as he misses the high-octane busy side of football.
While expressing a strong desire that the suspended season will eventually be concluded, rather than cancelled, the Germany-born central defender, who is on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion confessed that he just cannot wait for the coronavirus outbreak to fade away, so that he and other players can resume doing what they love doing best and return to active days again.
Although he acknowledged that cancellation of the season could see his team escape demotion from the English Championship, despite being just two spots outside relegation zone, Balogun surprisingly said he still prefers playing the whole campaign out, as he believes The Latics will overcome their relegation woes with the number of matches remaining to be played.
Balogun told ace comedian, Funny Bone during a live Instagram chat: “Looking at Wigan at the moment, probably everybody would be kind of happy in terms of why we are not getting relegated. But, at the same time, it’s like I feel like I want to continue because there are still like nine or 10 games to go and it would be wrong to stop it.
“On the other hand, I think most of the teams would need a little pre-season to get ready for the games. All of us try to stay in shape but, obviously, it’s not the same like you are on the pitch (in full team) training, I can go out for as many times as possible (during the ongoing stay at home), but I will never have the same match fitness that I gain from training and playing.”
