Glasgow Rangers of Scotland defender, Leon Aderemi Balogun has earned a fresh dose of praise from The Gers’ coach, Steven Gerrard, who admitted that the Super Eagles’ defender has helped the club make giant strides since his arrival last summer, megasportsarena.com reports.
With Balogun getting full duration action for The Gers in last weekend’s victory that extended their surge atop the Scottish Premiership table, Gerrard is reeling lyrical about the former Fortuna Dusseldorf, Darmstadt, Werder Bremen and SV Mainz of Germany stopper.
Although Balogun’s immediate past stints at Brighton and Wigan Athletic of England were not so rosy, the Germany-born lad appears to have resurrected after signing a year’s deal with Rangers as a free agent, much to Gerrard’s delight.
Although Balogun had to quit Wigan after just half a season, the 32-year-old stopper has been able to overcome some recent injury problems and he has already made 14 appearances thus far for table-topping Gers this season.
Gerrard has now acknowledged that he hopes The Gers can activate an option to extend the defender’s contract by a further year, saying: “Leon Balogun is also someone we want to keep hold of. He has done well and we have an option on his contract.”
