Al-Ahly of Egypt striker, Oluwafemi Ajayi Junior is targeting victory this Frioday in the CAF Champions League, but admits facing their local rivals, Zamalek in the ultimate encounter means he and his colleagues have to work really hard to snatch the espied diadem.
Megasportsarena.com reports that, having missed out on the African title twice, Ajayi is hoping to finally bury the demons once and for all, in order for him and his teammates to be lucky at the third attempt.
As he prepares to line out with The Red Devils against Zamalek in the Egyptian CAF CL derby, Ajayi admitted he has set his sights on winning the title on Friday.
After several postponements, Ajay’s side will finally battle Zamalek for the tournament’s diadem at Cairo International Stadium and the former youth international, who played a part in the 2017 final, which his team lost 2-1 on aggregate to Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca, says now is the time to shine.
He recounted how sorrow again hit his team the following year, as injury ruled him out from taking part in their loss to Tunisia’s Esperance but, while the 24-year-old forward laments his side’s failed attempts twice, he believes Ahly will be buoyed by their Egyptian Premier League triumph.
Al-Ahly’s supporters will be banking on Ajayi to reproduce his heroics against the White Castle from last year, when he was at the double against them in the Egyptian Super Cup and theb youngster vowed not to disappoint them.
Ajayi told FIFA’s website: “It was a bad time for us because coming up just short in consecutive editions isn’t good. We’d played very well throughout both of those campaigns but didn’t perform in either final, which cost us the title.
“We’re very happy we won the league, which gives us confidence ahead of the coming games. We’re only focused on the continental title and will do our best to claim it.
“I expect a good game from both sides. The two teams know each other very well, and Zamalek are among the toughest teams I’ve faced. I’ve lost two finals against them and it wasn’t a good feeling.”
