Nigerian-born world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Olaseni Oluwafemi Joshua has received yet another broadside from his British rival, Tyson Fury, as ‘The Gypsy King’ declared that he will not attend the multiple belt holder’s title fight with Kubrat Pulev this Saturday.
Megasportsarena.com reports that Fury went on to quash rumours that he is ready to get into a public face off in a bid to promote his much-awaited unification bout with Joshua, following a double-fight deal signed earlier this year and opened doors for both champs to step toe-to-toe with each other sometime in 2021.
Consequently, Fury says he will not be present this Saturday when ‘AJ’ defends his World Boxing Association (WBA), World Boxing Organisation (WBO) and International Boxing Federation (IBF) belts against his mandatory challenger in London, and enters the roped square for the first time since winning them back last year December against Andy Ruiz Jr.
Watford-born Joshua has been linked with a mammoth heavyweight unification with Fury, who holds the World Boxing Council (WBC) belt, and both pugilists are seemingly keen to meet in an all-British blockbuster showdown at some point in 2021.
There had been speculation that Fury would attend AJ’s bout this Saturday at Wembley Arena after his promoter, Eddie Hearn, invited ‘The Gypsy King’ to watch his rival, but the 32-year-old WBC champ has now denied in a 28-second video posted to Twitter any thought of him being at ringside.
Fury blasted: “Just a quick one guys, I will not be attending any boxing this weekend. So for all the rumours going around that I am going to be attending some boxing, I will not be.
“Don’t expect any fireworks, don’t expect any action from the Gypsy King, cos I’ll be grafting, I’ll be working as usual, always staying fit and ready. Good night and God bless.”
His remarks came after Hearn invited the Gypsy King to Saturday’s bout and the boss of Matchroom Boxing Promotions further told Sky Sports that Fury would be welcome to his home for a Sunday roast and cup of tea to boot.
Hearn cajoled: “If he wants to fight Anthony Joshua, it’s not a case of calling him out, it’s called doing his research and building the fight.
“Tyson Fury is more than welcome to come down. I only live 45 minutes away from Wembley. He can come around on Sunday afternoon for a roast as well, if he wants and a cuppa.”
