Joshua, Fury Blockbuster Unification Title Fight Is Still On Course – Hearn

Nigerian-born world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Olaseni Oluwafemi Joshua may yet still get to fight fellow-Brit, Tyson Fury in a blockbuster unification fight before this year runs its full course, if the words of his promoter, Eddie Hearn are anything to go by, megasportsarena.com reports.

Although the upcoming trilogy between America’s Deontay ‘The Bronze Bomber’ and Fury (The Gypsy King) appears to have stalled talk about a unification bout involving the two British world champs, Hearn says he remains positive that talks to see Joshua tango Fury will yield fruit.

Both world heavyweight boxing champions are British, after Fury captured the WBC title by spectacularly beating Wilder, and they are already set to meet for a third time in July, while Joshua holds the IBF, WBA and WBO belts, which he will next defend against mandatory challenger, Kubrat Pulev of Bulgaria on June 20 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.

Hearn disclosed that talks are underway with Fury’s US-based promoter, Bob Arum to pit both champs against each other later this year, even as they each have to get through separate fights first, and the Matchroom Promotions boss is staying upbeat that they will be able to stage an undisputed title fight in 2020, because the progress being made is all positive.

Hearn told Sky Sports: “There’s no reason why a deal can’t be done now to lock in Joshua and Fury for that November-December date. Conversations are ongoing with Bob Arum and are all positive. The undisputed fight must happen in 2020.

“Joshua and Fury are certainly going to trilogy. That’s part of the deal that we are looking to do ASAP – a two-fight agreement with Fury and Arum at the end of this year then summer 2021.

“We must try and do that fight in the UK. Ask AJ and Fury where they would like it, and they would say the UK. We know there will be huge offers from around the world. Our priority is to try and make this fight in the UK. To do it in the UK would be very special.

“There will be two of these, maybe three, so certainly summer 2021 we’ll get one in the UK. I would love to make the first one in the UK because we’ve got two British world champions who will fight for the undisputed title – this is never going to happen again.”
