Arsenal of England youngster, Joel Ideho finally got his first start for The Gunners’ youth team, but it came on a day three other Nigerian-born lads in his team failed to see any minute of action, megasportsarena.com reports.
While Ideho was all thrills in his first start for the London-based side, as they hosted Fulham on Saturday afternoon, Mazeed Ogungbo, Daniel Oyegoke and Nathan Butler-Oyedeji were not in Arsenal’s squad for the derby.
Two other Nigerian-born players, though, also got a piece of the action for Arsenal, as Ideho lasted 66 minutes on the pitch, goalkeeper Ovie Ejeheri and center back Zach Awe were in action for 90 and 47 minutes respectively, while Fulham’s Michael Olakigbe watched from the bench for the entire game.
All eyes were on Ideho, as the former Ajax Amsterdam of Holland whizkid was named in The Gunners’ starting lineup, but he failed to make any difference in the game that saw his side battle to a goalless draw in their English U18 Premier League fixture.
Following their draw, Arsenal are sat in seventh in the log, having picked up 13 points from eight matches, but their new Holland-born winger of Nigerian descent will hope to build on the personal strides he achieved with his first start since moving to Emirates Stadium in the summer.
It was his second match overall, having previously got ten minutes against Blackburn Rovers’ under-23 team, but he was an unused substitute against Liverpool and Gillingham United in their Premier League 2 and EFL Trophy encounters respectively.
