The latest top scorer in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) has turned out to be Rangers International of Enugu striker, Israel Abia, who took his haul to 12 goals with a brace that helped his side win 3-2 away to Dakkada of Uyo.
Megasportsarena.com reports that the match on Wednesday was a payback gift for The Flying Antelopes, who lost their first round fixture 2-0 at home, and Abia’s two goals ensured Rangers not only beat Dakkada, but they also climbed to fourth position on the NPFL table.
Abia’s tally of 12 goals is already better than that of last season’s winning mark, as both Ibrahim Sunusi from Nasarawa United of Lafia and Mfon Udoh from Akwa United of Uyo finished joint-top of the NPFL scorers’ chart with 10 goals apiece.
However, Abia is only just one goal ahead of Kano Pillars midfielder, Auwalu Ali, Plateau United of Jos striker, Ibrahim Mustapha and Ndifreke Effiong from Akwa United of Uyo, who are all also pushing hard for the top scorer’s prize with 11 goals each.
They are joined in the race by Enyimba of Aba striker, Victor Mbaoma, who scored one in his side’s 2-0 win away to Adamawa United of Yola, thereby taking his booty to nine goals, which is just one ahead of Katsina United winger, Tasiu Lawal.
