FC Lorient midfielder Innocent Bonke has been named as the replacement for Wilfred Ndidi in Nigeria’s squad to face Ghana in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier playoff, Megasportsarena.com reports.
A tweet from the Super Eagles read:
“Camp update: Innocent Bonke has been called up as a replacement for injured Ndidi for the World Cup qualifying games against Ghana. Get well quick Wilf.”
Ndidi cupped a knee injury in Leicester City’s 2-1 loss to Stade Rennes in the round of 16 of the UEFA Conference League on Thursday at the Roazhon Park, forcing him to be substituted.
Bonke has featured in seven Ligue 1 matches for the French club since moving from Malmo FF end of last year.
He was in action from start to finish as Lorient played out a 0-0 home draw with Strasbourg in Sunday’s Ligue une.
The midfielder was handed a maiden call-up by former coach Gernot Rohr and made his debut for the Super Eagles on 7 September 2021 in a World Cup qualifier against Cape Verde.
