The Nigerian-born of Ike Ugbo, who is on loan from Chelsea to Cercle Brugge of Belgium, and Dillon Hoogewerf of Manchester United got in among the goals scorers on another weekend of action in the Belgian Jupiler League and English U18 Premier League respectively.
Megasportsarena.com gathered that both youngsters made the best of their outings with their respective teams, as Ugbo took his tally for the season to seven goals in the Belgian top-flight, while Hoogewerf continued his majestic surge in England’s youth legue.
First out was Holland-born Hoogewerf, who helped Man United’s youth squad continue their impressive start to the season with a 1-0 victory over Stoke City on Saturday afternoon, though Netherlands youth international had to start the game on The Red Devils’ bench.
He, however, went on to play a key role in his side’s victory, following his introduction in the 69th minute, as the scoreline had been goalless at the break, even as Emeran came closest to breaking the deadlock when he struck the post.
Two minutes from time, Hoogewerf bagged the match-winning goal, assisted by Charlie McNeill and, though the standout player for United’s U18s last term has fallen down the pecking order in this season, with only three starts to his name after seven matches, the former Ajax Amsterdam of Holland starlet is pressing hard to regain his place in the starting line-up.
Similarly, Ugbo was again in top form, as Cercle Brugge returned to winning ways after suffering two defeats, as they beat Waasland-Beveren 2-0 at Freethielstadion on Saturday evening, with the lad from Chelsea netting both goals for his side, thereby taking his tally to seven goals in the Belgian First Division A.
Two minutes before half time, the former England U17 international opened scoring and then doubled the advantage on 82 minutes, and he is now third on the scoring charts behind Racing Genk’s Paul Ebere Onuachu and Germinal Beerschot’s Raphael Holzhauser, who both have nine goals each.
Ugbo’s other goals so far this season came against KV Mechelen, Sint-Truiden, KAA Gent (a brace) and Zulte Waregem, such that the 22-year-old lad, who previously spent time on loan at Barnsley, Scunthorpe United and MK Dons of England before joining Roda JC Kerkrade of Holland in the summer of 2019, will also aim to net another versus Royal Excel Mouscron on Wednesday.
