Cercle Brugge of Belgium striker, Ike Ugbo could be on his way to joining Paul Ebere Onuachu and Cyriel Dessers at Racing Genk of Belgium, following updated transfer reports linking the lad on loan from Chelsea of England with the duo’s top-flight club, megasportsarena.com reports.
Although Ugbo is still fresh at Cercle Brugge, which he joined last summer after excelling with Roda JC Kerkrade of Holland, also on loan from Chelsea, his breathtaking performances in the first half of the current season have caused fresh transfer attention coming his way.
The biggest talking point, though, is about a likely move to Genk, who have a strong Nigerian connection that dates back to the days of Sunday Ogorchukwu Oliseh, Tosin Dosunmu, Blessing Kaku and Wilfred Onyinyen Ndidi, with Ugbo likely to become the next in line.
This comes sequel to a report by allnigeriasoccer.com that Ugbo is attracting huge interest from Genk, with the club of Onuachu and Dessers at the head of a roll call of other Belgian clubs and some in the French Ligue 1 that are ready to put their money on the table for the lad’s signature.
They have all been impressed by Ugbo’s performances for Cercle, where he is on loan till the end of this season, but, with 10 goals in 16 appearances, he is bound to have many suitors trailing him, and Genk will not be surprised to know that he is also a key target of their Belgian rivals, Club Brugge as well as Olympique Marseille of France.
Incidentally, while the 22-year-old Ugbo recently hinted that he would love to finish the season at Cercle before making a decision on his next career step, Chelsea director, Marina Granovskaia has already started responding to inquiries about the former England youth international.
This is because The Blues still hold bragging rights over Ugbo, after he extended his contract at Stamford Bridge until June 30, 2022 before heading out to Brugge last summer, but he could be tempted to join Onuachu and Dessers at Genk as early as this month, other things being equal.
