AS Monaco of France returnee, Henry Onyekuru has taken time out on holiday with his family to marc his first year anniversary with his wife, Esty, who he took to the altar on July 27, 2019; as the love birds exchanged marital vows at a well-attended traditional wedding in Benin City.
The 23-year-old winger-cum-attacker was joined by Eagles’ pals, Oghenekaro Etebo, John Ogu, Chidozie Awaziem and Kenneth Omeruo for the event, just a week after he was a member of the Nigerian squad that finished third at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, where he played a total of just 12 minutes in the semi-final 2-1 loss to Algeria.
Megasportsarena.com gathered that, to mark a year of marital bliss, Onyekuru bought a 2019/2020 Range Rover Sport worth about N60m for his Esty, who was ecstatic as she took to Instagram to show it off; as she posted with glee: “Anniversary gift came early; thank you baby.”
Onyekuru and Esty, who dated for several years before they got married, have two kids already, being a two-year-old son they had before tying the nuptial knots and a daughter that was born in January 2020.
He is yet to join his Monaco colleagues in pre-season training and, with the French Ligue 1 still on an extended-coronavirus induced break till September, Onyekuru has taken off some time to relax and frolic with his family before returning to the club that recently hired a new coach to be in charge of the squad for the coming campaign.
That has helped him put behind him the disappointment of the past season, in which he failed to click after a full transfer from Everton of England to Monaco, and he had to hastily return to Galatasaray of Turkey for the second half of the campaign.
Incidentally, he spent the previous season on loan from Everton at Galatasaray, after an earlier similar spells at RSC Anderlecht of Belgium, but his second outing with the Istanbul-based Turkish Super Lig outfit was a far cry from the heroics he had first time out.
That informed Galatasaray’s decision not to extend his loan spell beyond the past season and Onyekuru had to head back to Monaco earlier this month; but he is obviously not allowing the setback weigh him down, as he is enjoying his holiday and has now chipped his first wedding anniversary into the mix of things.
Onyekuru excitedly took to social media to reveal how he celebrated the symbolic day with his wife and their two kids, as he posted: “One Year Down Many More To Go Red heartRed heart🙏🏾 #happyanniversary.”
