Nigeria’s cadet national team, Golden Eaglets will face opposition from Europe, South America and Oceania at this year’s FIFA U-17 World Cup in Brazil, following Thursday’s draw in The Samba Nation, megasportsarena.com reports.
The draw conducted by world football governing body, FIFA for the 2019 Cadet Mundial pits the Eaglets against Hungary, Ecuador and Australia in Group B, with the five-time winners expected to scale through.
Manu Garba’s team will open group play against Hungary on October 26 at Estádio Olímpico, Goiania, before facing Ecuador on October 29 and then end versus Australia on November 1, all at the same venue.
Nigeria, who are the most successful team in the competition’s history, following their conquests of the 1985, 1993, 2007, 2013 and 2015 editions, are one of four African countries heading to the championship in October, along with Angola, Senegal and Cameroon.
Angola are in Group A with hosts Brazil, Canada and New Zealand, while Senegal are in Group D with USA, Netherlands and Japan, with Cameroon pool together against Spain, Argentina and Tajikistan in Group E.
The Nigerian side, which finished fourth in April at the African U17 Cup of Nations in Tanzania, will hope to do better at Brazil 2019, which will hold from October 26 to November 17.
