Go Ahead Eagles have confirmed the signing of former Liverpool, Barcelona and PSV Eindhoven winger Bobby Adekanye on a 2-year-deal, reports Megasportsarena.com.
The 23-year-old played in the academies of Ajax, Barcelona, PSV and Liverpool, while he was most recently on the books of Lazio. He has spent time on loan with Cadiz, ADO Den Haag and Crotone in recent seasons.
Now, Adekanye has joined Go Ahead Eagles on a permanent deal, with the former Netherlands youth international penning a two-year deal.
After spells at FC Cádiz and ADO Den Haag, Adekanye was loaned out to Crotone in January, where he had little time to play. “I really wanted to go back to the Netherlands, to visit my family and friends. When Go Ahead Eagles came forward, I didn’t have to think twice about it.”
Megasportsarena.com reports that Adekanye is already the 7th new signing of the summer for Go Ahead Eagles. Although Adekanye is only 23 years old, he already has the necessary life and football experiences in his luggage.
“I was born in Nigeria, where it was not an easy life for our family. My father left for the Netherlands, in search of a better life for us. He did everything he could to provide for his income; cleaning, selling newspapers, you name it. At one point he had my mother, brother and me come to the Netherlands. I am eternally grateful to him for that.”
Adekanye describes himself as a winger who always looks for his direct opponent to pass him. “I also take my goals and assists and I am a real team player. If a teammate is in better shape than me, I will always put the ball down.
“In addition, I am a player who fits in today’s football, where attackers are also expected to defend. My first impression of Go Ahead Eagles is that it is a very hospitable and family club. I am therefore completely ready to have a top season in Deventer.”
Eagles technical manager Paul Bosvelt is excited with Bobby’s capture: “Bobby is a talented, dynamic winger with speed and creativity, who has played for major clubs and in major competitions in recent years. Now is the time for Bobby to play many matches and he will get that chance at Eredivisie level at Go Ahead Eagles.”
